Château d’Es-Bons 2022 voted Best Organic Chasselas at the Biovino Competition
When Christian Streit, with a smile on his face, climbs the steps of the podium to receive the trophy for the best organic Chasselas in Switzerland, you can immediately sense the emotion in him. His hands are a little sweaty and his eyes a little wet.
In May, the Biovino Competition named Château d’Es-Bons’ Chasselas 2022 the best organic Swiss Chasselas. On tasting, the wine is expressive on the nose. Notes of fresh fruit make it complex. Its suppleness on the palate is underscored by floral notes and good persistence.
The year 2022 was ideal for this grape variety, with fine weather and summer heat. But we had to watch our backs, as they say, because with organic farming, things can change very quickly. Harvesting was early and mostly carried out at night. As early as 3.30 a.m., by headlight, we had to hurry to deliver the grapes before the heat crushed the bunches.
As with all successful competitions, it was the teamwork of his wife, family and helpers, in collaboration with the Cave de La Côte oenologists, that made this first-place win possible. So when Christian Streit receives this award, he also has all these memories in mind.
